T’Shuv: Return!
Return to what? A nation? A temple? A book? A creed? A name? A place in the desert? A place in the heart? A listening? An embrace?
T’Shuv is the Biblical prophets’ favorite word. They ceaselessly called to Israel, Return! Teshuvah, returning, became the word for repentance in Judaism. It was translated to metanoia in New Testament Greek, which literally means beyond thinking, beyond intellect (meta – nous).
My interpretation is that, in order to return to awareness of God, we must transcend thought. We must rest in a naked humbled presence simpler than knowledge.
