Episode 64: Khadijah Queen

Please join us as our Tiferet Talk Interviews host Gayle Brandeis, are most honored and pleased to have award winning poet, writer, editor and teacher, Khadijah Queen.

Khadijah Queen is the author of Conduit and Fearful Beloved and Black Peculiar, which won the 2010 Noemi Book Award for Poetry. She has also released the chapbooks, bloodroot  and Exercises in Painting.  Her most recent poetry collection, I’m So Fine: A List of Famous Men & What I Had On, was released in March 2017.

Her poems and prose have been published in many journals and magazines including, Fence, jubilat, Memoir, and Tupelo Quarterly. She was also awarded the 2014 Leslie Scalapino Award for  Innovative Women  Performance Writers for her verse play Non-Sequitur. Part of the prize included a full stage production by Theaterlab NYC by The Relationship theater company.

Her work is widely anthologized in such publications as A Face to Meet the Faces: An Anthology of Contemporary Persona Poetry, Best American Nonrequired Reading, Everyman’s Pocket Library of Villanelles, Family Resemblance: An Anthology and Exploration of 8 Hybrid Literary Genres, Fire and Ink: An Anthology of Social Action Writing, and Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks, from Vietnam to Iraq.

She has also been awarded three Cave Canem fellowships, a foundation dedicated to cultivating the artistic and professional growth African American poetry. Her poetry book, I’m So Fine: A List of Famous Men & What I Had On, won Finalist, 2015 National Poetry Series.  She was also a Van Cleef & Arpels fellow in poetry at the Norman Mailer Center, Provincetown, MA 2011. She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize three times.

She is currently serving as core faculty in poetry and playwriting for the new Mile-High MFA in creative writing at Regis University.
