on this Pennsylvania hillside
I watch layers of mountain and sky share
motionless waves of greens and blues
like some vast unreachable ocean
still life with song
sonorous invitations and responses
tossed tree to tree
the birds
in search of…
rejoicing in…
yearning for…
how many languages do they speak
or is it only one they
so much better at brotherhood
than we
