Respect is Form of Love

My 8 year said today:”I cried because I did not want to share (the money she had available at that time). But after I understood why it was good to share, I cried because I was afraid of what you would say.” At that moment I remembered how fear and shame most often blocks learning. How we learn better when we feel loved and supported.

And I remembered that respect is a form of love. Respect that gives the space to be, to love self, to figure that we made a mistake while keeping our dignity. Respect that makes us want to grow and do better next time because we want to grow into love.
