Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? How long is your list? I remember doing a list in my 30’s that had about 17 things on it. Within a month, I was 0 for 17. And then I gave up resolutions altogether.
Here’s a definition for ‘resolution.’ 1. The process of resolving something, such as a problem or dispute. 2. A firm decision to do something.
So, tell me, what’s on your resolution list for the year? And as someone with an interest in energy and energy healing, have you thought about setting intentions instead?
Here’s a definition for ‘intention.’ 1. Aim or objective – something that somebody plans to do. 2. Quality of purposefulness – the quality or state of having a purpose in mind.
So now that you’ve had a chance to review the definitions for both words, which word seems more forgiving, viable, open-ended, progressive, doable? [If you picked resolution, no worries. Set an intention to evolve past your resolutions!]
Here’s an example of some intentions that I created for myself for 2012. They’re posted on the front of my fridge so they’re in front of me a lot of the time. Wait! Stop laughing at me. Maybe the paper covers the entire surface of the fridge so the Universe can easily see them, too. After all, the Universe rests in action!
Here’s the winning equation in my book – Intention + Attention = Manifestation. Developing an intention becomes more enjoyable as your experience with creating them increases. Part of the pleasure comes from perceiving the resonance of the intention with your awareness and sense of self. When your intention is solid and authentic, you’ll feel it in your being.
Be sure that your intention is positively framed. A negative intent generates negative results. There’s a big difference between ‘I am less angry when interacting with my children’ and ‘I parent my children using calm and clear language and my emotions are appropriate and balanced.’
Great – intentions are set – what happens next? Attention.
‘Energy flows where attention goes,’ Serge Kahili King tells us in his book, Urban Shaman. Attending to your intention moves you out of pass/fail and into self-awareness, choice, as well as the places where your stuff lights up and overrides your intent. As you become aware of how you derail, you’ll be able to make changes and stay on course.
The result is a day-by-day, choice-by-choice, in the moment, authentic journey from wherever you were to wherever you’ve intended to go. And discovering/encountering our imperfections, the inevitable moment when you step into the quicksand of whatever you’re evolving away from becomes easier to own, meet and clear.
Life isn’t pass/fail, so ignore your resolutions and set your intentions. Pay attention to your thoughts, your choices and your actions. And notice that the clearer you are with your intent, the easier it is to monitor whether or not you’re on or off track with how you’re manifesting your life.
